Remembering Will Downs
The Baseball Alberta community is shocked and saddened by this loss of longtime coach, volunteer, and friend Will Downs. Will was a passionate coach who shared his love of baseball with many coaches and players over the years. He volunteered countless hours coaching at various levels within Baseball Alberta and went on to earn coaching positions with the 14U and 16U girls provincial teams from 2013 - 2018. Will was a favourite amongst players at our annual Winter Camp and his dedication to coaching earned him Coach of the Year honours with Baseball Alberta in 2014.
A private ceremony will be held at Memories Funeral Home on Saturday, February 6 at 3:00 pm MST. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, this is by invitation only. Once summer is upon us and COVID-19 restrictions are lifted, the family is hoping to do a final celebration of Will’s life on a ball diamond just the way he would want.
In lieu of flowers, the family is collecting donations to continue passing along Will’s love for the game of baseball. In his memory, the family would like to provide the opportunity for young ball players to attend winter training camps with Edmonton Padres and Baseball Alberta, as well as training opportunities for coaches.
